Najboljši čas za vpis v potapljaške tečaje za začetnike je od marca do novembra, ko so razmere mirne, vendar je potapljanje na otoku Bintan možno vse leto. Od konca novembra do marca je mokra sezona, od decembra do februarja pa so lahko tokovi močni, kar lahko privabi bolj izkušene potapljače. Potapljanje na otoku Bintan je pogosto alternativa potapljanju na Tiomanu med monsunskim obdobjem in obratno.
