Čeprav je Armenija brez dostopa do morja, ponuja presenetljivo koristno sladkovodno potapljanje na ozadju dramatične gorske pokrajine. Jezero Sevan, eno največjih visokogorskih jezer na svetu, ki leži na skoraj 1 900 metrih nadmorske višine, je najpomembnejše mesto za potapljanje v državi. Višinsko potapljanje (Altitude Diving) veljajo postopki potapljanja, ki rekreativnim potopom dodajo tehnično razsežnost. Poleti lahko vidljivost doseže 10 do 15 metrov, temperature vode pa se gibljejo od 4 °C pozimi do približno 20 °C v pozni sezoni.
Potapljači raziskujejo strmo odsekano dno, potopljene gozdove, vulkanske tvorbe in celo poplavljene strukture ob obali. V Armeniji so tudi kamnolomi in rezervoarji, primerni za usposabljanje, tehnično vadbo in pozimi celo za potapljanje pod ledom (Ice Diving). Zaradi mirnih razmer, manjše gneče in edinstvene izkušnje potapljanja v kavkaškem gorovju je Armenija nepričakovana in zanimiva destinacija za avanturistične potapljače.

Lake Sevan – Northwestern Shore
Armenia’s premier freshwater site offers rocky drop-offs, submerged trees, and seasonal algae blooms sheltering crayfish and endemic Sevan trout. Suitable for recreational and altitude divers. Scuba and freediving possible. Clear summer visibility and high-altitude conditions add technical interest.
Lake Sevan – Norashen Area
Known for underwater volcanic formations and occasional flooded structures, this area hosts small fish, mollusks, and rich plant life. Best for intermediate to advanced altitude divers. Scuba diving is common, with calm conditions and depths ideal for training and exploration.
Aparan Reservoir
A quiet mountain reservoir with silty bottoms, freshwater crabs, and aquatic vegetation. Ideal for beginners and training dives, including dry suit practice. Scuba diving only. Cold temperatures much of the year make it suitable for skill development and controlled conditions.
Shamb Reservoir (Syunik Region)
Remote and scenic, this reservoir features steep underwater slopes and clear winter visibility. Divers may spot freshwater fish and dense plant growth. Recommended for advanced recreational divers. Scuba diving, with potential for technical depth exploration in selected areas.
Yerevan Quarry (Training Site)
A former quarry used for controlled dive training, featuring submerged platforms and training lines. Minimal fauna, but excellent for skills practice. Easy to advanced levels. Scuba and freediving possible. Calm, confined conditions suit courses and technical drills.
