Pollocks are common in the North Atlantic Ocean, mainly along the coastlines of Europe and North America. Pollocks consist of two species from the genus Pollachius and are part of the cod family, Gadidae. Pollocks are also commonly known as saithe or coalfish in Europe. They are a deep green color with a pale lateral line and a lighter underbelly.

The most popular countries to go diving with pollocks are the United States, Great Britain, and Ireland. This schooling fish is identifiable by its elongated body, barbel on the chin, three dorsal fins, and two anal fins. Pollocks average around 1.1 meters (3.5 feet) long and weigh 16 kg (35 lbs), making them relatively large fish.
