Perch are a famous freshwater game fish, with many species resembling it; however, there are only three actual species which occur in different geographical areas around the world: Europe, Asia, and North America. They are abundantly distributed in freshwater lakes throughout these regions and are popular for both sport fishing and for food. They are easily identifiable by their somewhat long, rounded bodies, two dorsal fins of which the first is spiny and the second soft, and black vertical stripes.

A popular dive site for all levels of divers, you can see the underwater sculpture placed here with six standing human figures looking up, surrounded at an 18-foot radius by benches at each cardinal point. Two sturgeons point north at 35 feet out, a tribute to a species that was once plentiful in the river.

The Robert Gaskin is a large, novice-friendly wreck south of Centene Park. Built in 1863, it sank in 1889 during a salvage attempt. A mooring line makes boat entries easy. Max depth ~70 ft, with swim-throughs and sheltered areas from current.

There is no thermocline in this area, allowing for very comfortable diving temperatures from May through October. Visibility is great and you can reach depths greater than 100 feet if you’re looking to do deeper dives. If not, this is also a great site for shallower diving close to shore.

On the southern shore of Lake Murner See, a former open-cast lignite mine, you will find the entrance “Slide.“ At about 5 m a metal material slide begins, which goes down to a depth of about 40 m. In the shallow area there is also a beautiful underwater forest. The acidic water provides mostly good visibility.

Borena Hora quarry - SSI Dive Center. It is a flooded quarry with a maximum depth of 22m, average depth of about 17m. The main attraction of the quarry is the wreck of the MI8 helicopter.
