Explore Nauru

There are a few dive centers on Nauru, though they’re not massively abundant, which makes for uncrowded dive sites to be enjoyed all to oneself. As it's close to many iconic Pacific islands, liveaboard cruises roam the islands.

Nauru is a coral formation itself that sits on the ocean floor like a nail sticking out of wood at around 500 meters-deep. There's a surrounding flat tidal reef that then drops off dramatically, marking the division between land and the beginning of the deep Pacific Ocean. This underwater landscape makes for breathtaking wall diving, where the endless drop-offs plunge into the blue abyss. The western side of Nauru around the boat harbour and Cantilevers in particular boasts these extreme walls. The warm, clear waters make depth monitoring very important, as divers can easily see the surface as clear as day from 40 meters.

Furthermore, because there are no sheltered waters, marine life is particularly durable and can cope with rough oceans. Expect diverse Indo-Pacific reef fish, incredible corals, rays, macro critters and reef creatures. Plus, the open ocean dives here are a playground for all kinds of sharks and large pelagics that lurk in the blue.

While there’s a lack of distinct South Pacific scenery that’s typical of Micronesia, that can’t be said for Anibare district, where there’s a beautiful stretch of white sands peppered with palm trees, bathed by glimmering turquoise waters that’s deep and clear enough for snorkelling and diving. Vibrant coral pinnacles covered in marine life and fauna can be marvelled at in this underwater fairyland of vibrant color.
