Jordan offers a unique diving experience along its 27-kilometer Red Sea coastline, a gem nestled in the southwest corner of the country. Despite its modest length, this stretch of the Red Sea is teeming with vibrant marine life and diverse dive sites. One can explore the stunning coral reefs that are home to a plethora of colorful fish, sea turtles, and occasionally, playful dolphins. The coral gardens are particularly alluring, showcasing both hard and soft corals that create an underwater paradise for divers. Diving in Jordan provides a variety of experiences, from shore dives to boat dives, and for those seeking more adventure, liveaboard options. A notable feature of diving here is the array of intriguing wrecks, such as the famous Cedar Pride, which has become an artificial reef attracting an abundance of marine life. Seasonal changes bring unique encounters, with the chance to see migratory species passing through. The warm, clear waters and relatively calm conditions make it an ideal destination for divers of all skill levels, promising both tranquility and adventure beneath the waves.

August 1 - 19, 2027 Skill Level: All experience levels Red Sea Aggressor IV Trip Leader: Kathy Gagliardo Join Ocean First on one of our favorite itineraries to stunning Jordan, the Red Sea, and Egypt! This special itinerary will be even more amazing with the viewing of a partial solar eclipse on August 2! Our itinerary includes visiting Amman, the Dead Sea, and amazing Petra. There is also one night spent at a desert camp under the stars! Jordan is a fascinating country rich in history and beautiful archaeological sites. This is one of Ocean First’s signature trips and not to be missed! The Red Sea is considered to be one of the 7 wonders of the underwater world, harboring more than 1000 species of invertebrates and over 200 species of hard and soft coral. The high level of endemic species in the Red Sea is one of the main factors that makes diving in Egypt so interesting. Divers can expect unobstructed opportunities to spot tropical marine life in crystal clear waters, ranging from sharks to dolphins to gorgonian sea fans and feather stars. This charter follows the southern itinerary, following the Egyptian coastline. We continue to Luxor to explore the Valley of the Kings, Luxor Temple, and take a sunset cruise of the Nile. There will also be an opportunity for a hot air balloon ride over the Nile for anyone who is interested! Our adventure wraps up in Cairo with tours of the Great Pyramids, the Sphinx and various museums.

Kiwi Reef (★4.4)

The shallow entry and sandy bottom of the house reef, Kiwi Reef, is prefect for beginner courses. The reef also extends west to deeper waters and a typical dive on kiwi is 12-24m depth.

New Canyon and Tank, Aqaba (★4.5)

Starting from the boat, the first features are 2 large pinnacles teaming with life. From here you follow the canyon down one side, where you can pick your depth, from here and depending on experience you can, either, shallow up and come back up the same side or cress in the “blue“ to make the tank your stop.

Gorgon 1, Aqaba (★4.5)

A reef teaming with life and suitable for all levels. The site is named after a huge, white gorgonia at the start of the dive, then follow the reef to explore 2 large pinnacles and, supposedly, the largest cabbage coral in the middle east.

Suitable for all levels and only available as a boat dive. A flat plateau to around 16m then dropping off on a wall to around 40m where it levels out then drops again to around 60m then dropping again!

King Abdullah Reef (★4.6)

This beautiful site takes it’s name from the present king of Jordan. Spread over a large area it’s very easy to make 3 or 4 dives at this reef site and not see the same thing and suitable for all levels of diver.

Top Wildlife Sightings in Jordan

Jordan's Red Sea coast, particularly in Aqaba, offers a vibrant marine ecosystem. Common reef fish include parrotfish, angelfish, and butterflyfish, easily spotted around colorful coral formations. Divers can expect frequent encounters with these species, making them a staple of the local underwater scenery.

Seasonal highlights include sightings of green turtles, often seen gliding through the waters during warmer months. Although less common, eagle rays and reef sharks can be spotted, especially during spring and early summer. These encounters are typically more likely in deeper waters, where divers with more experience might venture. Overall, Jordan's marine life provides a rich and diverse experience for divers year-round.
