Explore Venezuela

Venezuela offers a varied diving palette: shallow coral gardens, dramatic drop‑offs and submerged walls, and scattered wrecks that teem with life. Islands and archipelagos such as Los Roques and nearby keys shield vibrant reefs where gorgonians, sponges and hard corals host colorful reef fish, angelfish and parrotfish. Sea turtles, rays and occasional reef sharks are commonly seen, while seasonal visits from larger pelagics and migrating whales can add epic sightings to certain times of year, depending on region and season.

Dive styles range from easy shore entries and short boat hops to multi‑day liveaboards that reach remote atolls. Visibility can be excellent in offshore atolls and more variable along the mainland coast, so planning by season improves chances for calm seas and big animals. The mix of accessible shallow sites and adventurous wall and wreck dives makes Venezuela appealing both to relaxed snorkelers and experienced divers seeking memorable encounters and diverse underwater landscapes.

Full day Try Scuba Diving (Try Scuba)

The SSI Try Scuba program is the best way to dive for the first time. You'll dive in a pool or confined water accompanied by an accredited instructor, who will be by your side at all times so you can enjoy this unforgettable underwater experience and let the magic of scuba diving take you away. When you complete this short program, you will get your SSI Try Scuba recognition card and no doubt, you will be looking forward to diving again. There are plenty of dive experiences waiting for you out there and this program is just what you need to get started. Upon completion of your Try Scuba training and with your recognition card, you will be able to claim a $20 discount on your Open Water Diver course from Refugio de Divers for a period of no more than 3 months after your pool training. The Try Scuba Program is divided into an academic part that you must complete at home and the practice in the pool accompanied by our accredited instructors. It is important that you download the application for iOS or Android "MySSI" and register with SSI, in order to complete the registration process and give you access to the program. By practicing in the pool accompanied by our instructors, you will have enough time to adapt to the underwater environment. Some of the skills you will learn during the program include:- Learning to use SCUBA equipment.- Moving through the water with ease.- Breathing normally underwater.- Controlling your buoyancy so you don't ascend and descend uncontrollably.- The easiest procedures for entering and exiting the water.- Emptying the water from your underwater visor, among others. The Try Scuba program will be taught in one of our partner pools. The investment includes registration in the program, access to online academic material, supply of equipment and scuba tanks, training with an accredited instructor, issuance of a digital card of recognition, access to the pool for practice. Drinks and towels are not included. We recommend: Bring swimsuit, towels, sunscreen, hats, caps and a lot of desire to have fun.

Top Wildlife Sightings in Venezuela

Venezuelan reefs host diverse Caribbean marine life: abundant parrotfish, surgeonfish, angelfish, grunts and snappers, plus common inhabitants like moray eels, octopus and spiny lobster. Small reef sharks and schools of barracuda are often encountered on deeper reef edges; visibility and current influence sightings.

Seasonal highlights include hawksbill and green turtles, seen year-round but more frequently during nesting seasons at protected sites (e.g., Los Roques), while reef and nurse sharks are common, and rays (southern stingrays, eagle rays) appear more seasonally or in sand flats—likelihood varies by site and season.
