Nature Island Dive, Nature Island Aquasports
Bayfront, 00190-8000 Soufriere, Dominica
Dominica offers a raw, volcanic backdrop that gives its diving a distinctive character: black-sand slopes, dramatic drop-offs and fringing reefs teeming with life. Expect abundant reef fish, hawksbill and green turtles, eagle rays and occasional reef sharks, plus colorful sponges and soft corals clinging to lava formations. Visibility is often good, and cooler upwellings can bring schooling pelagics; in winter months humpback whales pass offshore, adding a seasonal spectacle above the dive sites.
Most diving is from small boats and shore entries—many sites are easy shore dives for confident swimmers—while liveaboard-style excursions are rare but possible for multi-day charters. Walls, pinnacles and a handful of shallow wrecks offer varied profiles for both macro hunters and photographers. Divers should be prepared for currents on some sites and appreciate Dominica’s uncrowded, nature-first approach: it’s a place where geology and marine biodiversity combine to reward curious, conservation-minded visitors.
Dominica's reefs host abundant tropical reef fish—parrotfish, angelfish, surgeonfish, grunts and damselfish are common around shallow fringing reefs and pinnacles. Nudibranchs, moray eels and cleaner wrasse are frequent; sightings are most reliable at sheltered bays and rocky outcrops.
Seasonal highlights include green and hawksbill turtles (regular year-round, more hatchlings mid-year), reef and occasional nurse sharks near deeper drop-offs, and spotted eagle rays or manta sightings during migration months—likelihood varies by site and season.
