The SSI Independent Diving specialty teaches experienced divers how to plan and execute dives safely without a dive buddy, focusing on self-reliance, advanced planning (like gas management), equipment redundancy (often with a backup air source), risk assessment, and emergency skills to handle situations alone, making you a more competent, self-sufficient diver for situations like solo diving or photography.
