The SSI Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) Specialty program at Barbarian Diving Tenerife is conducted in Los Cristianos, South Tenerife, and combines skill development with extended underwater exploration using professional underwater scooters.
Training is typically completed in one day and includes practical instruction, dive planning, and open water training dives conducted at carefully selected dive sites suitable for DPV use. Dive locations are chosen according to sea conditions to ensure safe operation, optimal visibility, and ideal learning conditions.
Courses are conducted in small groups to guarantee personalized supervision and safe handling of DPV equipment. A professional SSI Instructor provides detailed briefings covering scooter control, propulsion techniques, buddy procedures, gas management, navigation considerations, and safety protocols specific to DPV diving.
All required scuba equipment, including DPV units and dive computers, is provided. Equipment preparation, charging, transport, and logistics are fully managed by our team so participants can focus entirely on the diving experience.
Hotel pickup and drop-off are included within the Los Cristianos area. Courses and briefings are available in:
- English
- Spanish
- German
- Italian
- Portuguese
Scheduling may be adjusted depending on weather and sea conditions to maintain the highest safety standards. Participants must hold a valid recreational diving certification, complete the SSI medical questionnaire prior to diving, and are responsible for holding valid diving insurance.
Minimum recommended surface interval before flying:
- 12 hours after a single dive
- 18 hours after multiple dives
This specialty focuses on safe DPV operation, improved dive efficiency, and enhanced underwater exploration while discovering Tenerife’s unique volcanic underwater landscapes.
