Inbäddat i det glittrande Stilla havet i Mikronesien ligger Kiribati, hem till södra Stilla havets största marina reservat i Phoenix Island Protected Area, som utsågs till ett UNESCO-världsarv 2010, och består av 32 atoller och en upphöjd korallö.
Huvudöarna delas vanligtvis in i tre grupper: Gilbertöarna, Lineöarna, som inkluderar den välkända Julön, och Phoenixöarna. Dykcenter och dykresorter som erbjuder en rad olika dykkurser och resor finns, men inte i stort antal, vilket ger små grupper och lugna dykplatser.
Vid sportdykning i Kiribati kommer du troligen att få uppleva landintag och dykning från traditionella utriggarkanoter. Dykning med liveaboard är också ett alternativ, där dykare kan besöka de bästa platserna runt olika öar.
De viktigaste dykbaserna är Christmas Island och Tarawa. Julön är Kiribatis största och mest berömda ö och hem till världens största korallatoll. Den lockar många dykare till sina orörda rev där många marina arter trivs. Dykare kan förvänta sig kalejdoskopiska revfiskar, regnbågsfärgade hårda och mjuka koraller, drakmuräner, sköldpaddor, revhajar, manta- och örnrockor och till och med spinnerdelfiner. Från december till april är det vanligt att se späckhuggare, delfiner och vikvalar. Mellan november och april är det möjligt att stöta på valhajar. Tarawa-atollen har också fantastisk dykning, förutom reliker från andra världskriget som ett resultat av konflikterna under denna tidsperiod.

1. Christmas Island

Scuba diving is the primary activity, with vibrant coral gardens and diverse marine life promising unforgettable underwater adventures.
4. Southern Line Islands
The Southern Line Islands are a paradise for advanced divers, with largely unspoiled coral reefs supporting a diverse range of marine life. Scuba diving is recommended to explore the depths fully. The remoteness of the islands contributes to their pristine condition, making them a hidden gem for those seeking adventure.
5. Kiritimati Atoll (Freediving Possible)
Kiritimati Atoll, part of the Line Islands, is suitable for both scuba diving and freediving. It offers an easy to advanced adventure level, ideal for exploring its expansive coral reefs and abundant fish species. The atoll's remoteness has allowed the marine environment to flourish, providing a spectacular setting for underwater exploration.
