エクスプローラー・ハービーベイ
ハービーベイはクイーンズランド州南部の沿岸都市で、オーストラリアで最もザトウクジラの回遊を観察できる場所のひとつである。 ハービーベイとフレーザー島の間に位置するグレートサンディ海洋公園では、印象的な沈船ダイビングがいくつも見られる。クジラと一緒に泳ぐことができるのはもちろんのこと、オグロメジロザメ、オオモンハタ、ウミガメに遭遇することもある。
ハービーベイでは、数少ないダイブセンターがあり、スクーバダイバーコースからアドバンスドオープンウォーターコースまで、さまざまなコースを提供している。 ハービーベイから飛行機ですぐのレディエリオット島では、グレートバリアリーフの南端に生息するマンタを見ることができる。
ハービーベイでのダイビングに最適な月
ハービーベイでのスクーバダイビングは、透明度が最も高くなる6月から8月の冬の間がベストである。 ザトウクジラの雄大さを見に来たのであれば、7月から10月にかけて目撃することができる。7月から9月まではクジラと一緒に泳ぐことができるが、9月中旬頃に子クジラがやってくると、泳ぐことは制限され、代わりに素晴らしいホエールウォッチングが行われる。
Top Hervey Bay Dive Sites
1. HMAS Tobruk Wreck
Scuttled in 2018, this ex-naval ship lies between 12–30m and offers advanced scuba divers a 120m-long swim-through via open stern doors. The site attracts large schools of fish, rays, and groupers. A must for wreck diving enthusiasts within a protected marine zone.
2. Roy Rufus
Artificial Reef This site features several shallow wrecks—Pelican, Otter, and Lass O’Gowrie—positioned close together for an exciting, multi-wreck scuba dive. Suitable for intermediate divers, it’s a haven for wobbegongs, stonefish, and scorpionfish.
3. Steel Barge S4
Located at 12m depth, this compact wreck is perfect for scuba training and beginner divers. Calm conditions and good visibility make it ideal for learning while exploring marine life like batfish, angelfish, and soft corals.
4. Moon Ledge
A natural dive site with coffee rock ledges, shallow caves, and scattered boulders. Suitable for all levels and freediving. Expect sightings of rays, reef fish, and turtles. A refreshing alternative to wrecks, offering a more relaxed dive profile.
5. Hardie Wreck
This lesser-known wreck rests in the Roy Rufus Reef system and offers intermediate scuba divers swim-throughs and rich marine growth. Home to moray eels, trevally, and macro critters. A quieter site for divers seeking a more off-the-beaten-path experience.
