オアハカ州はメキシコにある31の州の一つであり、太平洋に面した南部沿岸に位置しています。州内には、サーフィンの名所として知られるプエルト・エスコンディードや、9つの小さな湾と36のビーチからなるエリアであるウアトゥルコ（旧称：バヒアス・デ・ウアトゥルコ）といった、人気の高い沿岸部の観光地があります。 ウアトゥルコにあるこれらの湾のうち5つは国立公園（ウアトゥルコ国立公園）の一部として保護されており、豊かな海洋生態系を支えています。これもまた、ウアトゥルコがスクーバダイビングの目的地として人気を集めている理由の一つです。
この太平洋の地域では年間を通じてスクーバダイビングが可能ですが、海況が最も穏やかになる11月から5月にかけてがベストシーズンです。また、この時期はウアトゥルコの沖合で外洋性の生物に遭遇できるチャンスもあります。 もちろん、ウミガメやウツボ、熱帯魚、タコ、二枚貝、甲殻類、腹足類といった、外洋性以外の生物も豊富に生息しています。

オアハカでのダイビングに最適なシーズン
オアハカのダイビングコンディションは年間を通じて基本的によい状態が維持されており、水温は25〜29°Cの範囲にあります。乾季にあたる11月から5月にかけては透視度が上がる傾向にあり、しばしば最大30mに達するため、ダイビング愛好家にとって最適な時期となります。 一方、雨季にあたる6月から10月にかけては、流れが強くなったり、透視度が時には10m程度まで低下したりするなど、ダイビングに影響が出る場合があります。年間を通じてダイビング自体は可能ですが、この数ヶ月間は熱帯性低気圧や強風に注意が必要であり、これらは安全性や水中のクリアさに影響を与えることがあります。
