ラバウルは、パプアニューギニア島のすぐ東に位置するニューブリテン島の東海岸にある町で、島嶼地域に属しています。ラバウルの港は大規模な火山噴火によって形成され、周辺地域は今もなお多くの休火山に囲まれています。海岸には第二次世界大戦の残骸や遺物が点在しており、多くの沈船愛好家をこの地域に惹きつけています。沈船以外にも、栄養豊富な火山性の海域には、色鮮やかなソフトコーラルから優雅なイーグルレイまで、多様な生物が生息する、手つかずの美しいサンゴ礁が数多く存在します。水中には、尽きることのない驚異が広がっています。

ラバウルでのダイビングのベストシーズン

ラバウルは温暖なダイビングの目的地で、気温は22℃~32℃、水温は28℃~29℃です。年間を通してダイビングを楽しむことができます。雨季は12月から4月で、穏やかな海と夕方のにわか雨が特徴です。乾季は温暖ですが、海はやや荒れます。視界は年間を通して良好です。

1. George Wreck

This site, a Japanese WWII minelayer, offers a rich marine habitat for divers to explore. Divers can expect to see a variety of marine life that has made the wreck their home. It is suitable for all levels, from easy to advanced, given its depth of 12 to 60 meters. Scuba diving is the primary type of diving here, with the wreck providing a historical and visually captivating experience.

2. Tom, Dick and Harry Reefs

Connected by a ridge at 15 meters, these reefs offer diverse underwater experiences. The colorful marine life and varied features make it an adventure for all divers. While primarily a scuba site, advanced freedivers may also explore, subject to conditions. The reefs are teeming with vibrant marine flora and fauna, making it a thrilling dive.

3. Reimers Wall

This exhilarating wall dive descends to 50 meters and features overhangs and swim-throughs. It's ideal for advanced to technical divers due to its depth and structure. Scuba diving is the main activity here, with opportunities to see numerous marine species. The wall dive provides an awe-inspiring view of underwater formations.

4. Beehives

Known for its unique volcanic formations resembling beehives, this site offers a mix of adventure and natural beauty. It's suitable for intermediate to advanced scuba divers. The site features various marine life and is set in a protected area of ecological importance, ensuring a pristine diving experience.

5. Tavurvur Volcano

Diving near the active Tavurvur Volcano offers a unique backdrop for both scuba and advanced freediving. The area showcases geothermal activity with vibrant marine species thriving in the nutrient-rich waters. The site is for adventurous divers, with emphasis on safety due to volcanic activity.
