フィジーで3番目に大きな島、タベウニ島でのスクーバダイビングは、きらめく色彩と活気に満ちた魚たちの姿で世界的に有名です。タベウニ島は、フィジーで2番目に大きな島、バヌアレブ島の南東に位置し、ソモソモ海峡と呼ばれる狭い海峡で隔てられています。毎日の潮の満ち引きによって大量の海水がこの海峡を流れ込み、豊かな熱帯の海洋生物を育んでいますが、ソモソモ海峡とタベウニ島の真の魅力は、そのソフトコーラルです。赤、ピンク、黄色、白、紫、オレンジ、茶色など、花のように揺れるソフトコーラルの群生が、タベウニ島でのダイビングに独特の美しい景観を作り出しています。これらのサンゴ礁には、きらめくハナダイやハナダイの群れが泳ぎ、ウミウシやチンアナゴからリーフシャークやマンタまで、あらゆる種類の海洋生物が生息しています。
タベウニ島はリゾートダイビングに最適な場所で、ソモソモ海峡の海岸線沿いには長年の実績と高い評価を誇るダイビングリゾートが点在しています。タベウニ島でのダイビングは、海峡を挟んで対岸にあるバヌアレブ島のダイビングリゾートからもアクセス可能です。バヌアレブ島の南海岸沿いのさらに西に位置するサバスブのダイビングセンターからも、ソモソモ海峡への特別ツアーが催行されることがあります。ただし、ダイブサイトに到着するまでにはかなり時間がかかります。

タベウニ島でのダイビングのベストシーズン
タベウニ島でのダイビングのハイシーズンは4月から10月です。ただし、タベウニ島でのスクーバダイビングは一年中楽しめます。7月から9月にかけては貿易風の影響で海面が荒れることがあり、水温は22℃まで下がることもあります。雨季は12月から4月で、短時間の激しいにわか雨や雷雨が断続的に発生します。降水量が最も多いのは12月から2月です。夏の水温は30℃まで上昇することがあります。視界は15メートルから40メートルで、通常は冬（6月から8月）が最も良好です。
マンタは通常11月から5月にかけて見られ、ウミガメは10月から4月にかけてよく目撃されます。

Great White Wall is an advanced dive site for scuba enthusiasts. Here, divers discover a dramatic drop-off adorned with white and lavender corals. This area is ecologically important, providing a critical habitat for various marine species in the region.
