フィジーで3番目に大きな島、タベウニでのスクーバダイビングは、きらめく色彩と生き生きとした魚類で世界的に有名である。タベウニ島はフィジーで2番目に大きな島、バヌアレブ島のすぐ南東に位置し、ソモソモ海峡と呼ばれる狭い海峡で隔てられている。毎日の潮の満ち引きがこの海峡に大量の海水を送り込み、豊富な熱帯海洋生物を育むが、ソモソモとタベウニの真のハイライトはソフトコーラルだ。赤、ピンク、黄色、白、紫、オレンジ、茶色など、さまざまな色調のソフトコーラルが花のように揺れ動き、タベウニダイビングならではの美しい景観を作り出している。これらのサンゴ礁の庭は、キラキラと輝くスズメダイやアンティアスの群れで飾られ、ウミウシやガーデンイールからリーフシャークやマンタまで、あらゆる海洋生物が生息している。
