그레이트 배리어 리프는 세계 7대 불가사의 중 하나로, 호주 퀸즐랜드 미션 비치에서 가까운 거리에 있습니다. 웡갈링 비치에서 출발하여 그레이트 배리어 리프 외곽으로 항해하면, 잔잔한 석호에서 초보 다이빙 강습을 받거나, 더 깊은 수심의 절벽과 강한 해류가 흐르는 해협으로 내려가 대규모 원양어류 떼와 산호초 상어를 만날 수 있습니다.
미션 비치에서는 몇몇 다이빙 센터를 통해 스쿠버 다이빙을 즐길 수 있습니다. 다이버들은 전세 보트를 타고 외곽 그레이트 배리어 리프를 탐험하며 하루를 보냅니다. 미션 비치 근처에는 수심이 얕고 접근하기 쉬운 다이빙 포인트가 많아, 오픈 워터부터 레스큐까지 다양한 다이빙 코스가 제공됩니다.
Top Mission Beach Dive Sites
1. Fingers
This easy scuba site is ideal for beginners, featuring expansive finger coral fields and vibrant anemones. Tropical fish dart throughout the coral, creating a colorful, relaxed dive experience. Calm conditions also make it great for snorkelling.
2. Plates
A ridge lined with large plate corals, offering gentle drift diving perfect for novice divers. Cracks and crevices hide reef critters, while snorkellers and freedivers enjoy clear visibility and shallow, photogenic terrain.
3. North Wall
At 18 metres, this site suits Open Water certified scuba divers. Explore a vertical reef wall inhabited by moray eels, crayfish, and passing reef sharks. A great mix of structure and marine life for intermediate-level exploration.
4. Shark Alley
This advanced dive site features a sloping coral wall patrolled by black-tip and white-tip reef sharks. Expect pelagic fish activity and occasional strong currents. A must-visit for shark enthusiasts and seasoned scuba divers.
5. Beaver Cay (Beaver Reef)
One of Mission Beach’s most popular sites, Beaver Cay offers coral gardens teeming with turtles, stingrays, and reef sharks. Suitable for all levels and both diving styles, it's part of a protected reef area with excellent biodiversity

미션 비치에서의 다이빙은 연중 가능하지만, 그레이트 배리어 리프에서 다이빙하기 가장 좋은 시기는 수온이 따뜻하고 비가 올 확률이 낮은 6월에서 10월 사이입니다. 우기는 1월부터 3월까지이며, 이 기간에는 비가 많이 와서 시야가 좋지 않을 수 있습니다.
