오악사카는 멕시코 31개 주 중 하나로, 태평양을 마주한 남쪽 해안에 위치해 있습니다. 서핑 명소인 푸에르토 에스콘디도와 9개의 작은 만과 36개의 해변으로 이루어진 우아툴코(옛 이름은 바히아스 데 우아툴코)와 같은 인기 해안 관광지가 있습니다. 우아툴코의 만 중 5곳은 국립공원(우아툴코 국립공원)으로 지정되어 풍부한 해양 생태계를 보호하고 있습니다. 이러한 이유로 우아툴코는 인기 있는 스쿠버 다이빙 명소로도 유명합니다.
태평양 이 지역에서는 연중 스쿠버 다이빙이 가능하지만, 해양 조건이 가장 잔잔한 11월부터 5월까지가 최적의 시기입니다. 이 시기에는 다이버들이 후아툴코 해안에서 원양 어종을 관찰할 기회도 많습니다. 바다거북, 뱀장어, 열대어, 문어, 조개류, 갑각류, 복족류 등 원양에 서식하는 해양 생물 또한 풍부합니다.

오악사카의 다이빙 조건은 일반적으로 연중 내내 양호하며, 수온은 25~29°C(77~84.2°F)입니다. 11월부터 5월까지의 건기에는 시야가 더욱 맑아져 최대 30m(98.4피트)까지 도달하는 경우가 많아 다이빙 애호가들에게 이상적인 시기입니다. 그러나 6월부터 10월까지의 우기에는 해류가 강해지고 시야가 줄어들어 다이빙에 영향을 미칠 수 있으며, 때로는 10m(32.8피트)까지 시야가 제한되기도 합니다. 연중 다이빙은 가능하지만, 이 시기에는 열대성 폭풍과 강풍으로 인해 안전과 수중 시야가 악화될 수 있으므로 주의해야 합니다.
