Malapascua is the #2 dive destination in the Philippines! It’s one of the few places in the world you can see pelagic thresher sharks. The Holy Trinity of the dive sites here include: Monad Shoal, Kimud Shoal and Gato Island. Monad shoal is what made Malapascua famous for the pelagic thresher sharks. The sharks would visit everyday in the morning for the cleaning station that Monad Shoal offers. This shoal is a cleaning station for many pelagic species such as the tiger shark, gray reef shark, whale shark, whitetip reef sharks, as well as manta and devil rays and of course the thresher sharks! Plus there are plenty of macro opportunities which includes countless nudibranchs. Recently the thresher sharks have moved from Monad Shoal to Kimud Shoal possibly because of divers with poor buoyancy control, this is why advanced buoyancy skills are needed to visit both Monad and Kimud Shoals.
One thing that distinguishes Kimud from Monad in particular, is the increased population of the thresher sharks. It’s 100% that you will see the thresher sharks, but there is no guarantee! Also Kimud Shoal is a full garden of hard corals, soft corals, and sponges, with plenty of reef creatures, crowns the plateau of Kimud shoal. This is a great spot to look for moray eels and frogfish. Along the sloping or vertical sides of the shoal, soft corals of many colors abound, housing a great variety of nudibranchs and shrimps for macro-lovers. Huge sea fans also decorate the drop-offs, which have dramatic overhangs on the east side of the shoal. During your surface intervals look out for the thresher sharks breaching completely out of the water! Also keep your eyes open for spinner and bottlenose dolphins to and from Monad and Kimud shoals! Another can’t miss dive site is Gato Island. Gato Island is a protected marine sanctuary and it is a perfect place to see both macro and big fishes. This dive spot is particularly famous for the sea snakes, whitetip sharks, and bamboo sharks and coral cat sharks resting under the rocks. It is also known for its tunnel dive where whitetip and blacktip reef sharks await the divers at the exit of the tunnel.
On the colorful soft coral gardens, you can also see frogfishes, pygmy seahorses, and nudibranchs. Away from the Reef are also good to spot schools of squids and sometimes big-mouthed mackerel attracted by bait balls. The underwater rock formation of the island is impressive with its overhangs and swim-throughs that let you enjoy beautiful light games. This dive spot is without a doubt one of the pearls of Malapascua. Gato Island was subdivided into five dive sites namely: the Cathedral, Guardhouse, Nudibranch City, The Cave, and Whitetip Alley.

Monad Shoal wordt beschouwd als de beste duikplaats ter wereld om de zeldzame en schuwe voshaaien te zien. Deze haaien leven normaal in de diepte, maar komen hier regelmatig vroeg in de ochtend voor de schoonmaakpost.
Nadat de voshaaien om onbekende redenen uit Monad Shoal verdwenen en naar de Kimud Shoal verhuisden, is dit nu een van de beste duikplaatsen ter wereld om de zeldzame en ongrijpbare voshaaien te zien. Deze haaien leven normaal gesproken in het diepe, maar komen hier regelmatig voor de schoonmaakstations op ondiepere diepte.
Pasil Reef is een mooi zandgebied dat geschikt is voor muckduiken. Het is ook een geweldige plek voor nachtduiken. De maximale diepte is ongeveer 16 meter. De gemiddelde diepte is 5-8M.
Mooi koraal- en zeegrasrif en een goede plek voor nachtduiken. Deze duikstek is voor beginners en een goede opleidingslocatie voor studenten buitenwater en gevorderden.
Dit is een duikstek voor gevorderden die tot 28M diep gaat. Deze wandduik heeft een gemiddelde diepte van 12 tot 14 meter. Dit is een goede duik voor muckduikers en macrofotografie.
Mangrove is een geweldige duikstek voor openwatertraining met een gemiddelde diepte van 8-10 meter en een maximale diepte van 14 meter. Er is een mooi zandgebied en een patch rif.
Het ondiepe gedeelte van het beroemde Lapus-lapus eilandje voor de kust van de punt van het noorden van het eiland Malapascua. Het heeft de ondiepste diepte van 4-5 m, kruipend naar de diepere kant tot 18-20 m. Het is perfect voor beginnende en gevorderde duikers die de interactie tussen het onderwaterleven en het rif willen observeren.
Dakit Dakit Pinnacle is ongeveer 5M diep aan de top en loopt dan op tot 12-14M en heeft een diameter van de top van 20M. Bedekt met mooie harde en zachte koralen waaronder tafelkoralen en grote rotsen met mooie begroeiing.
3-5m vlak rif en zandvlakten met een aflopend rif tot 16-17m, een perfecte duikstek voor cursussen voor open water, advanced open water of hoger.
Het eiland ligt tussen Maya en Malapascua en is eigenlijk niet meer dan een rots die uit het water komt. Sommige bomen bedekken de stenen en vogels hebben van het eiland hun thuis gemaakt. Vanaf de wanden van het eiland loopt het geleidelijk af naar een maximale diepte van 18 meter.
Lapus Shallow Dive site is een ideale duikstek voor opleidingen. Het is een zandhelling met enkele rotsformaties. Meestal is er een lichte stroming, behalve bij slap hoogtij.
Kleine rotsen komen uit het water en zorgen voor een prachtige sfeer, vooral tijdens zonsondergang. Op deze duikstek vind je sterke stromingen, maar op andere momenten van de dag is het een perfecte duikstek voor check-up duiken, open water en gevorderde duikers.
10 minuten van de haven van Malapascua naar de noordkant, een diepe rotsachtige pinnacle perfect voor expertduiken op zoek naar gemiddelde tot sterke stroming bij getijdeveranderingen, afdaling naar de top van de pinnacle op 14m tot het diepste deel op 34m.
Een favoriete nachtduikplek in Malapascua gevonden op het noordelijke deel van het eiland. De duik begint meestal in de schemering om de duikers in staat te stellen naar de Mandarijnse vissen te kijken.
Duikstek voor beginners, ideaal voor opleidingen, dicht bij het zeereservaat. Zandbodem met zeegrasvelden ernaast. Meestal rustig en stil water, alleen lichte stroming indien aanwezig.
