Benidorm ligt aan de zuidkust van Spanje, in de Valenciaanse Gemeenschap. Het is beroemd als zonovergoten vakantiebestemming voor Europeanen, vooral Britten. Hoewel het bekend staat om de vakantiecultuur, is het duiken hier verre van beroemd - en dat is niet erg!
Rond de stad vind je een aantal duikcentra, waarvan de meeste alle duikcursussen aanbieden, van introductie- tot specialty-cursussen en divemasterprogramma's. Sommige resorts doen dubbele diensten als duikresorts. Er zijn een aantal liveaboards in de nabijgelegen Balearen, maar geen enkele vertrekt direct vanuit Benidorm.
Duiken in Benidorm is ideaal voor zowel beginners als doorgewinterde professionals. Het water is kristalhelder, voedzaam - wat
leidt tot een rijkdom aan fauna - en meestal erg kalm met weinig stroming. Het wordt omringd door uitstekende duikstekken, waaronder Benidorm Eiland (met de beroemde pinakel La Llosa), Mitjana Eiland en het Serra Gelada Natuurpark. Hoogtepunten van Wildlife zijn de beroemde Spaanse octopus en grote scholen barracuda's.
Top Benidorm Dive Sites
1. La Llosa
Located near Benidorm Island, this submerged pinnacle rises to 7 m and drops dramatically to 33 m. Scuba divers can spot moray eels, octopus, bream, and colorful nudibranchs. Due to occasional currents, this is best for advanced divers.
2. Los Arcos
A scenic dive site at a max depth of 18 m, featuring large boulders and arches that cast beautiful patterns with the sunlight. Ideal for both scuba and freediving, it’s a favorite for its accessibility and picturesque terrain.
3. Punta Garbí
This steep wall dive descends from 4 m to 20 m and is teeming with marine life. Expect sightings of moray eels, groupers, nudibranchs, and eagle rays on the sandy bottom. Adventure level is moderate, suitable for most divers.
4. The Dock
Following a mooring line down to 24 m, this gentle slope is great for easy exploration. It’s rich in marine life like stargazers, octopus, and occasionally mola mola. Ideal for beginner to intermediate scuba divers.
5. The Elephant Cave
A stunning underwater cavern starting at 12 m and extending 25 m inside. Perfect visibility, intricate stalactites, and calm waters make it a captivating dive for certified cavern divers. Freediving is possible with caution.
