In het zuiden van Egypte, op slechts 100 km van de grens met Soedan, aan de kust van de Rode Zee, ligt Berenice. Deze afgelegen locatie was vroeger een van de toplocaties voor liveaboard duiken en is nu uitgegroeid tot een populairdere duikbestemming. Het wordt omringd door ongerepte, beschermde gebieden waardoor je een aantal van de meest ongerepte duikgebieden ter wereld kunt zien. Dit duikgebied is nog in opkomst, dus er duiken hier geen grote mensenmassa's en de mensen die dit gebied bezoeken hebben allemaal dezelfde instelling vanwege de afgelegen locatie; ze waarderen de natuur en wat die te bieden heeft, boven of onder water. Er zijn 47 duikstekken om te verkennen in dit gebied.
Top Berenice Dive Sites
1. Sha’ab Sataya (Dolphin Reef)
Sha’ab Sataya is famous for its resident pods of spinner dolphins and vibrant coral gardens. It’s an easy dive for all levels and suitable for both scuba and freediving. With calm conditions and 30m+ visibility, it offers a serene encounter with dolphins, colorful reef fish, and occasional turtles.
2. Habili Radir
This isolated reef is rich with soft corals, anthias, jacks, and sometimes barracudas or grey reef sharks. Strong currents and depths over 30m make it an advanced scuba dive. The pinnacle structure and exposed location offer a thrilling drift dive with impressive pelagic sightings.
3. Sha’ab Claude
Sha’ab Claude features unique swim-throughs, arches, and light-filled coral corridors inhabited by butterflyfish, parrotfish, and moray eels. Suitable for easy to moderate-level scuba divers, this site provides a beautiful, maze-like underwater landscape ideal for exploration and photography.
4. Sataya South Wall
Located on the outer edge of the Sataya reef system, this wall dive descends past 40m and attracts tuna, barracudas, and sometimes oceanic whitetip sharks. It’s a technical-level scuba dive with potential for strong currents. The dramatic drop-off and remote location make it a top site for experienced divers.
5. Sha’ab Maksour
Sha’ab Maksour is a long, narrow reef with plateaus on both ends and vertical walls. It’s home to soft corals, fusiliers, and large pelagics like napoleon wrasse and reef sharks. Best for advanced scuba diving, it offers excellent visibility and dramatic underwater topography in a relatively undisturbed marine zone.
