Verken Wolfseiland
Wolf Island, in de Ecuadoriaanse Galapagos, is voor de meeste Scuba duikers een ambitieuze reis. Dit kleine (1,5 km in het vierkant) vlekje vulkanisch gesteente ligt 350 km van San Cristobal en behoort tot de beste duikplekken ter wereld.
Toerisme is verboden op het eiland, dus de enige bezoekers zijn duikende liveaboards. De enige naaste buur is Darwin Island, dus er komt weinig verkeer dat niets met duiken te maken heeft deze kant op. Duiken op Wolf Island kan complex zijn - hevige stromingen, krachtige golfslag en woelige oppervlakteomstandigheden zorgen samen voor omstandigheden die het meest geschikt zijn voor ervaren duikers.
Hoewel de hoogtepunten van het duiken op Wolf Island talrijk zijn, moet het meest iconische beeld de "muur" van hamerhaaien zijn, silhouetten tegen het zonovergoten water en zachtjes golvend in de stroming.
De beste Maanden om te duiken in Wolf Island
Duiken op Wolf Island kan het hele jaar door. Van januari tot juni is het warme en natte seizoen. Het brengt iets meer regenval met zich mee, evenals warmere (25°C) en rustigere oceaanomstandigheden. Dit is het beste seizoen om mantaroggen en grotere scholen hamerhaaien te zien - hoewel deze het hele jaar door te zien zijn.
Van juni tot december brengt de Humboldtstroom koel, voedzaam water uit het noorden. Het toegenomen plankton in het water brengt de seizoensgebonden bezoekers binnen - walvishaaien. Deze enorme vissen worden gedurende dit seizoen regelmatig gezien.

1. El Derrumbe
This site is renowned for its diverse marine life including schooling hammerheads, manta rays, turtles, and Galapagos sharks. 2. Shark Bay
True to its name, Shark Bay is dominated by a variety of sharks, including large schools of hammerheads at around 25 meters, as well as Galapagos and silky sharks. Sea lions are a common sight here. This advanced scuba diving site is known for its vibrant shark population and dynamic underwater environment, ideal for seasoned divers.
3. The Caves
Featuring stunning caves, caverns, and swim-throughs created by erosion, The Caves offer an exciting exploration for scuba divers. Once out of the caves, divers can enjoy a gentle drift while observing the breathtaking topography and abundant aquatic life. This site is suitable for advanced divers due to its complex underwater structures.
4. Fondeadero
Fondeadero is a popular night dive location, protected from strong currents, making it suitable for both beginner and advanced scuba divers. The site offers a magical experience with bioluminescence and sightings of deep-sea creatures and fur seals hunting by night. This dive site provides a unique opportunity to explore the underwater world after dark.
5. North Islet
Also known as La Banana due to its curved shape, North Islet features a wall dotted with caverns, tunnels, and captivating topography.
