The Black Anchor Scuba Diving & Snorkeling was founded in 2013 by Mariana Uriel, the first woman in Puerto Rico to establish a dive center on her own. With the idea of changing the perspective of diving in Puerto Rico by making it a sport accessible to all, providing safe and exciting underwater adventures and scuba diving courses at all levels, from entry level to professional. Over the years, The Black Anchor has grown into a well-respected diving center known for its commitment to safety, inclusive with the community, environmental conservation, and exceptional customer service.

It’s the first choice for anyone who wants to learn to dive, complete a referral, book a snorkeling or diving trip, and become an SSI professional. Our staff of instructors have over 40 years of experience, and we use MARES diving equipment in classes, rentals, and sale. Also, we have a MARES equipment repair center. The Black Anchor offers a range of scuba diving courses, from introductory sessions for beginners to advanced certification programs. The courses are conducted by certified and experienced instructors who ensure that participants receive comprehensive training and guidance. Some of the popular courses include: •Basic Diver: you will learn the skills and knowledge you need to try diving up to 40ft/12m deep with an SSI Professional. It is a great way to explore the underwater world more fully as you try diving •Scuba Skill Update: we will get you back in the water and dive very ease in no time. This scuba refresher course allows you to review and practice scuba skills you learned in your Open Water Diver course, under the guidance of an SSI Professional. •Referral: Allows us to complete your open water course in our Training Center. •Open Water Diver: This beginner course covers the basics of scuba diving, including safety procedures, equipment usage, and underwater navigation. •Advanced Open Water Diver: Designed for those looking to enhance their diving skills, this course includes specialized dives such as deep diving, underwater navigation, and night diving, nitrox. •Rescue Diver: This course focuses on developing the skills needed to prevent and manage diving emergencies, with an emphasis on rescue techniques and first aid. •Divemaster: Professional certification, this course trains divers to assist instructors and lead dive trips. •Assistant Instructor/Instructor Training: The Assistant Instructor rating is the next step after becoming a Divemaster along the scuba instructor pathway. It allows you to collect valuable teaching experience, practice briefings, teach academics, and conduct in-water training. If you want to further your career as a dive professional, you can finish the Instructor Training Course, pass the Instructor Evaluation, and become an Open Water Diving Instructor •Specialty Instructor Seminar: Continue your diving education as an instructor by enrolling in a Specialty Instructor Seminar for each of the diving specialties you would like to teach. Alternatively, you can co-teach the specialty you are interested in with an experienced Specialty Instructor or request a Verification Application of your experience and send it directly to SSI. Teach more specialties to automatically earn the Advanced Open Water Instructor certification. •Assistant Instructor Trainer: Assistant Instructor Trainers prepare Assistant Instructors to teach academics and conduct in-water training. As an Assistant Instructor Trainer, you are also qualified to assist Instructor Trainers, giving you valuable experience along your scuba diving instructor pathway. Este sitio es el remanente de un viejo muelle. Es una inmersión poco profunda, no más de 30-35 pies de profundidad con un fondo de arena. Los restos del fondo proporcionan un arrecife artificial para una gran variedad de vida marina. La visibilidad oscila entre los 3 metros (si ha estado lloviendo) y los 15 ó 20 metros.

Este es un sitio de arrecife natural que va a una profundidad de 30 pies hasta unos 70-80 pies, con un descenso gradual. La costa es rocosa, así que hay que tener cuidado donde pisas, pero la inmersión es una agradable inmersión de placer. La visibilidad puede variar desde 15 pies hasta más de 50 o 60 pies.

El MV Ambar es un naufragio al que sólo se puede acceder en barco, alcanzando una profundidad máxima de 160 pies. Debido a la extrema profundidad de este naufragio, este sitio es sólo para buzos expertos con el entrenamiento adecuado y equipo para las paradas de descompresión. La visibilidad suele ser excelente, y los buceadores pueden experimentar corrientes ligeras o moderadas en la zona.

Esta es una inmersión poco profunda en la orilla o en un barco en los restos de un viejo muelle de la planta de azúcar. El fondo es arenoso y está lleno de restos del muelle con una profundidad máxima de 40 pies. La visibilidad suele ser muy buena, y normalmente no hay una corriente fuerte en la zona.

hay de todo en esta inmersion, desde arrecifes hasta pecios, solo se puede ir en barco, hay inmersiones en aguas bajas, paredes y arrecifes, profundidades de 20 a 200 metros.

Esta es una inmersión desde la orilla, con un fondo de arena y rocas y arcos que se forman naturalmente. Se pueden encontrar varias anclas antiguas en el área, y el fondo es perfecto para clases y para practicar el control de la flotabilidad. La vida marina será en su mayoría pequeños peces tropicales, con la ocasional tortuga o raya nadando.

Se encuentra a una profundidad de 0 a 40 pies, se puede llegar desde la orilla, el fondo es arenoso, para disfrutar de lo que tiene, se recomienda usar nitrox, para poder estar más tiempo en profundidad. Perfecto para inmersiones nocturnas.
