New Britain é uma das ilhas da região insular de Papua Nova Guiné. A vegetação luxuriante em terra é um belo contraste com as águas azul-turquesa. Estas águas estão repletas de uma grande variedade de diferentes tipos de mergulhos que são susceptíveis de entusiasmar mergulhadores de todos os interesses. As águas mornas e límpidas contêm uma variedade de destroços, grandes montes submarinos vulcânicos, recifes florescentes e paredes íngremes. As principais cidades a partir das quais se pode mergulhar são Rabaul e Kimbe, sendo outros destinos populares a ilha de Witu e o recife de Fathers. A Nova Bretanha é um destino de mergulho quente, com temperaturas que variam entre 22°C-32°C/72°F-90°F, e temperaturas da água que variam entre 28°C-29°C/82°F-84°F. Os mergulhadores podem mergulhar aqui durante todo o ano. A estação húmida decorre de dezembro a abril e consiste em mares calmos com aguaceiros ao fim da tarde. A estação seca é quente, mas com mares ligeiramente mais agitados. A visibilidade é superior à média durante todo o ano.
