Oaxaca là một trong 31 tiểu bang của Mexico, nằm trên bờ biển phía nam, hướng ra Thái Bình Dương. Nơi đây có những điểm du lịch ven biển nổi tiếng như Puerto Escondido, một điểm đến lý tưởng cho môn lướt sóng, và Huatulco (trước đây là Bahías de Huatulco), một khu vực gồm 9 vịnh nhỏ và 36 bãi biển. Năm trong số các vịnh này ở Huatulco được bảo vệ như một phần của Vườn quốc gia (Parque Nacional Huatulco), nơi hỗ trợ hệ sinh thái biển đa dạng.
