Diving in Kas

There are two main types of diving that attract most divers: overhead environment diving and diving into history, which includes exploring wrecks and historical artifacts. The two most thrilling dive sites are aptly named The Tunnel and The Canyon. These sites offer exciting caves, caverns, tunnels, and canyons for divers to explore, and they are often inhabited by a wide array of species. Other dive sites feature shipwrecks, plane wrecks, and historical artifacts such as anchors and amphorae. All the dive sites are located offshore and can be reached by boat. Additionally, there are wrecks lying deeper than 50 meters/164 feet, which are ideal for technical divers to explore.

The Mediterranean is not known for its multitude of flourishing reefs, however, there is a large abundance of marine species which live among the rocky formations, Hard Corals and Sea Grass. Some of the smaller critters include Sea Snails, colourful Nudibranchs, Octopus, Seahorses, Moray Eels and a collection of Crustaceans. Some of the fish species include Triggerfish, Schools of Mackerel, Jacks, Tuna and Barracuda. Some of the larger species include large Groupers, Sea Turtles, Stingrays and Eagle Rays.

The best Months to Dive in Kas

One factor which makes this a popular diving destination is that divers can dive here throughout the year due to the warm, and generally dry climate. The best diving season is between April and October due to warm weather and warm water conditions and the best visibility which averages around 25 meters/82 feet with multiple dive sites reaching over 40 meters/131 feet of visibility. The water temperature ranges between 18°C/64°F in the winter up to 27°C/81°F in the midst of summer. The least popular months to dive are December and January due to a short rainy season which may affect visibility. Air temperatures here range between 21°C–33°C/70°F–91°F.
