Jackfishes - Trevallies

The trevally is a large species of silvery marine fish in the jack family.

The trevally is a large species of silvery marine fish in the jack family and a favorite game fish amongst open water anglers. These massive predators can be found individually and in schools throughout the Indo-Pacific region, ranging from South Africa west to Hawaii and Japan south to Australia. Trevallies are intelligent fish species, using targeted hunting strategies to pick off their prey, including other fish species, crustaceans, cephalopods, and mollusks.

Diving with trevally is an exciting experience as they offer thrilling encounters due to their large size and swift swimming abilities. You can spot juvenile trevallies in warm lagoons, whereas the adults prefer deeper waters and are often sighted around offshore atolls and deep drop-offs. Check out the map below to find the best dive spots for trevally sightings.

★★★★☆ Beriyan Dhekunu Thila

Regardless of whether Thila or the nearby main reef BDT is the best Marco place, which does not mean that there are no big fish;) However, there are occasional “funny currents“ which are no problem with a guide who knows his way around! After the small Thila, simply hold the current right / left shoulder and drift

★★★★★ Kottefaru Thila

Great thila with many small overhangs that often serve as shelter for rays, nurse sharks and turtles. Soft corals and extremely many anemones !! Due to its location in a canal, a current must always be expected. We, therefore, recommend having experience with currents or a * special * dive.

★★★★☆ Kinolhas

A simple, mostly calm dive site.Very suitable for the first boat dive since the beginning lighter sandy bottom.Big blocs with schooling fish of different species are here encountered. The reef falls on very slowly from 2m down to about 11m and then aplateau run out at a depth of 20-24m.

★★★★☆ Nagili Thila

Great drift dive over several large blocks and small thilas. Due to distances of 80m and currents more demanding and for experienced divers or divers willing to learn. Nice overhangs and arches in the deeper area, Deep / Nitrox has the best combination. Depending on the current, you can go diving on the house reef

★★★★★ Aquarium / Lhohifushi Corner

This dive site is located right next to the island. The long reef ends into a corner of the canal. Here you can see several highlights. A very nice dive site for beginners as well as experienced divers.
