1. Why Take This Specialty Course?
Take a fresh look at your underwater time limits. Imagine spending more time exploring deep reefs, enjoying longer encounters with marine life, and feeling less fatigued at the end of a full day of diving. The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox specialty is the most popular specialty course in the diving world for a reason. By increasing the percentage of oxygen in your scuba tank, you reduce nitrogen absorption, allowing you to safely extend your bottom times and make the absolute most of Koh Lanta’s world-class dive sites like Koh Haa, Hin Daeng, and Hin Muang.
- Extended Bottom Time: Stay down longer at deeper depths without exceeding your no-decompression limits.
- Shorter Surface Intervals: Enjoy greater flexibility and safety when planning multi-dive days.
- Open to Certified Divers: Dry-classroom specialty only.
2. Course Curriculum
The course combines interactive online learning on the MySSI app.
Key Topics Covered:
- Physics & Physiology of Nitrox: Oxygen partial pressures, maximum operating depths (MOD), and managing oxygen exposure.
- Dive Planning & Logistics: Calculating equivalent air depths (EAD) and optimizing dive profiles for Koh Lanta’s deep reef sites.
3. Prerequisites
Open Water Diver certification or equivalent).
- Minimum Age: 10 years old.
4. Your International Certification
- Digital SSI Enriched Air Nitrox 32% or 40% certification recognized worldwide.
- Counts directly toward your SSI Specialty Diver, or Master Diver ratings.
5. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do I have to do ocean dives to complete this certification?
No! Enriched Air Nitrox can be completed as a non-diving practical specialty at the dive center.
Is Nitrox meant for deep diving?
While Nitrox gives you significantly more bottom time at mid-to-deep depths (15m to 30m), it actually reduces your maximum depth compared to air due to oxygen limits. You will learn how to calculate and respect your Maximum Operating Depth (MOD) during the course.
