Morotai is one of Indonesia’s northern-most islands located in the North Maluku province. The best Months to dive in Morotai
Scuba diving in Morotai can be done all-year-round, yet, the best season for diving is from the end of March until July. During this time, the ocean is considered to be less rough and the winds are calm, creating excellent dive conditions.
Top Wildlife Sightings in Morotai
Famous for the large numbers of sharks, scuba diving in Morotai will find divers among black-tip sharks, grey reef and leopard sharks. Within these drift dives, schools of fusilier, batfish, and surgeonfish circle hoping to avoid the gaze of large droves of yellowfin tuna and barracuda. On occasion, you can watch as an eagle ray swoops by.
In silty seabeds, macro lovers can hunt for frogfish, leaf fish, and the ghost pipefish as sea snakes slither away. The epaulette shark has also been spotted in these shallow areas, searching for crustaceans and worms that hide against the seafloor.
