Tiger Beach is characterized by extremely shallow shark diving, all in crystal visibility and mostly mild currents. Boat diving here is the most common practice, and as it’s an incredibly famous spot, many liveaboard trips also include a dive at Tiger Beach in their itinerary.
Top Wildlife Sightings in Tiger Beach
Of course tiger sharks are the stars of the show, with their silver-blue stripes and intense dark eyes, but they aren’t the only pelagics to make an appearance at Tiger Beach. Caribbean reef sharks are also attracted by the buffet of chum, in addition to sublime lemon sharks. Nurse sharks are also known to come to town and enjoy the feast, while great hammerheads grace divers with their presence, particularly between the months of November until late February. You’ll also likely see plenty of hitchhiking remoras attached to many of these beauties, and many divers can watch as small wrasse clean the sharks’ mouth and gills.

The best Months to dive in Tiger Beach
Scuba diving at Tiger Beach is serene all year round, with welcoming water temperatures ranging between 27°C-31°C/81–88°F. Tiger sharks are present all year, however, for the highest numbers, including other shark species, the best time to dive here is from November to January. November to May is the dry season, when skies are sunny and clear, and humidity is mild.
June to October is the rainy season, though downpours often pass quickly. Hurricanes are possible during this time, so ensure to take out travel insurance. Tiger sharks are still present, though usually fewer numbers are seen. The site itself will be much less crowded, allowing for excellent personal encounters.
