Explore Volivoli
Starting with the Bligh waters, named after Captain Bligh of The Bounty, this stretch of sea separates Fiji's two main islands of Vanua Levu and Viti Levu. There are a few dive resorts and dive centers dotted around this region, though it’s mostly liveaboard territory. Nutrient-rich waters attract a myriad of species through the channels, that hosts life from the smallest of the small, to the big stuff. The Koro Sea that begins opposite Bligh Waters is also a diving haven, where liveaboards roam.
Strong currents can limit many of the dive sites in Bligh Water and the Koro Sea to experienced divers, although there are some spots suitable for beginners, particularly around Volivoli’s resort and the Rakiraki coastline.
Within this area also lies the iconic Vatu-I-Ra Passage, which holds over 50 dive sites, including a large wreck. Divers are kept entertained for multiple days, exploring bommies, reefs, canyons, and walls, all offering some of Fiji’s most colorful corals and marine critters.
Overall, scuba diving in Volivoli and its nearby hotspots offers pristine conditions at uncrowded sites. The varied conditions, including walls, pinnacles, drop-offs, deep sites and strong currents can make for excellent training conditions for advanced dive courses.
