Explore Príncipe
If you are looking to get off the beaten path, scuba diving in Príncipe is about as remote as you can get. It is the smaller of this volcanic nation’s two main islands and home to a diverse array of plant and animal species both above and below water. Due to this island nation’s remote location, there is a long list of flora and fauna that are endemic to this region. Laying right on the equatorial line, diving in Príncipe is always warm, 27 to 30 Celsius year-round, the perfect home to colorful hard coral species and many different tropical fish. A picturesque tropical getaway, the island offers sweeping views of lush jungles, substantial rocky cliffs, meandering streams, and amazing waterfalls. The underwater world is a diver’s paradise, as well. The best dive sites in Príncipe include the beach dive off of Bom Bom Resort, Jockey Cap Island, Maria Coreo, and the local shark dive. The best diving in Príncipe is between December and late February when the tropical waters are crystal clear. Diving is offered year-round but is best avoided between March and mid-May when rivers are emptying into the ocean during the rainy season, often dramatically reducing visibility.
