Explore the best dive sites in Honduras

Prominently located in Central America, Honduras offers 832 km of coastline along the Caribbean Sea. Most diving in Honduras takes place on the Caribbean islands of Roatan and Utila. However, if you are looking to get off the beaten track, the island of Guanaja is an excellent choice. Honduras’ warm, crystal-clear waters offer spectacular diving through thriving coral reefs covered in colorful hard and soft corals, large sponges, and diverse marine life. You can also explore many spectacular wreck dives. Honduras offers fun top-side experiences as well, such as jungle trekking, exploring Mayan ruins, white-water rafting, and endless white sandy beaches.

Aqualung

Silver Gardens (★4.3)

Located 20mins from the main hub on the south side of the island, this site has 4 markers. The shallow is at 20ft with sandy patches and then drops to about 100ft.

Airport Caves (★4.5)

Airport Caves Dive Site is located about 10 to 15 minutes from the main dock on Utila.Located on the south side of the Island in front of what used to the old airstrip .

Ted's Point (★4.4)

A south side dive site offering a sandy bottom at about 60ft. The east slopping wall has depths to over 100 ft. The western side is shallower at 60ft.

Moon Hole (★4.4)

Moon Hole is a large sandy patch surrounded by coral. This is an excellent site for Buoyancy or Open Water training dives. From Moon Hole, you can cross the coral to Ron’s Wreck.

Texas (The Point) (★4.5)

Most dives that are called Texas actually start closer to the Salt Life Point buoy and drift into Texas. The reason for this is that Texas is the area off of the westernmost point of the island and can be subject to strong currents. The Texas buoy itself is in 40 ft / 12 m and if there is current it will generally be pushing you off of the island and out towards the blue, so your dive can be hard work and short.

West End Wall (★4.6)

West End Wall is one of the most popular dive sites in Roatan. People come from all over the Bay Islands to dive here. It is a huge and amazing wall on the west end of Roatan, full of canyons and a huge variety of marine life. Sometimes the current can be medium to strong at the end of the dive.

Butcher’s Bank (★4.4)

Butcher’s Bank offers is so much variation, making it a firm favorite with many dive operators in the area. The line is set at the usual 40 ft / 12 m at the inner end of a coral finger running in from the outer wall.

Blue Channel (★4.6)

Blue Channel dive is one of Roatan’s most famous snorkel sites, while at the same time a great dive site. Swim along a wide, shallow channel in the reef and into 20 minutes of tunnels. Finish the dive in the shallow swaying turtle grass.

Hole In The Wall (★4.6)

A very unique dive site, Hole in the Wall is West End’s version of Delicate Arch. It is located just to the south/west of the boat channel at Mangrove Bight. The site that is marked on the Marine Park map is actually the Mangrove Bight buoy; there is no buoy for Hole in the Wall.

El Aguila (Wreck) (★4.6)

El Aguila (The Eagle) is Roatan’s most popular wreck dive and is located just off Baileys Key and Anthony’s Key Resort. It was a concrete freighter and sunk off Utila. The wreck was raised, stripped out for diving, and then sunk again by a consortium of dive shops on the island in 1997.
