Diving in Chuuk

Most scuba diving in Chuuk is done by boat with land-based operators, or alternatively, by liveaboard. Reef diving is serene here, though the biggest highlight is of course, the many historic shipwrecks that make for some emotional wreck diving.

Top Wildlife Sightings in Chuuk

Sharks roam around the wrecks that are covered in hard and soft corals. At the outer reefs, even more pelagics can be spotted, including blacktips, whitetips and grey reef sharks. Barracuda, tuna and trevally whizz by, and vibrant reef fish decorate the colorful reefs, while other critters like eels, shrimp, scorpionfish, nudibranch, stingrays and octopus linger.

The best Months to Dive in Chuuk

Chuuk diving is good year-round; however, for the most stable weather and best diving conditions, visit from December to April. Water temperatures remain around 28°C–29°C/82°F–84°F throughout the seasons, thanks to a welcoming tropical climate. Visibility can reach up to 30 meters/98 feet.
