Found in the Western Cape region of South Africa, Plettenberg Bay has much to recommend it as a dive destination. There is plenty of marine life to keep all divers happy and an abundance of dive sites.

There are a few dive centers and dive resorts to choose from, so your dive courses can be done in comfort. Liveaboards don’t operate in the area due to the occasionally stormy seas. Highlights include vibrant reefs, wobbegong sharks, cape fur seals and dolphins.

Top Plettenburg Bay Dive Sites

1. Shallow Blinders

This shore dive is ideal for all levels with a maximum depth of 13m. It offers excellent macro and reef life, alongside sightings of ragged-tooth sharks. Both scuba and freediving are possible here, providing a rich experience in marine life diversity.

2. Dolphin’s Column

Accessible via a short boat ride, this site is suitable for easy to intermediate divers. It ranges from 12-18m in depth and is frequented by bottlenose dolphins. Divers enjoy vibrant corals, nudibranchs, and octopus amidst this underwater haven.

3. Grootbank

Known for its untouched beauty, Grootbank is an advanced dive site featuring caves, swim-throughs, and dramatic drop-offs. Here, divers can encounter cod and various sharks, making it a thrilling scuba experience amid stunning reef landscapes.

4. Whale Rock

This advanced diving spot is home to seals, often seen near the colony. The site offers scuba diving opportunities with rich marine interactions, preferred by experienced divers seeking encounters with dynamic underwater life.
