Explore San Pedro

San Pedro is located in the south of Ambergris Caye in Belize. It is a popular holiday destination as it has something for everyone; sun, white sandy beaches, beautiful nature above and below the water and even history to explore. What is extremely special here is that the Belize Barrier Reef runs along the coast of San Pedro and provides divers with spectacular underwater scenery. The 40 dive sites in this area can be reached within 30 minutes by boat. These dive sites can be accessed either by day trip boats sent out from the dive centres and dive resorts in San Pedro, or by liveaboard which usually depart from Belize City. San Pedro is a great destination to holiday in while exploring some of the best diving in Belize.

Diving in San Pedro

Considering the large amount of dive sites which the day trip boats visit out of San Pedro, there are many types of diving to be done here, but all of them are from a boat. The Belize Great Barrier Reef has a variety of topography including shallow reefs, impressive coral walls, arches, caves and caverns. Trips also go out as far as the famous Great Blue Hole where divers can experience floating in the blue abyss, or tec divers can reach 120 metres.

The best Months to Dive in San Pedro

One of the best aspects of San Pedro and its surrounding areas are that the climate conditions are great throughout the year. The water temperatures are warm, even in the coldest time of the year with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 29°C. The visibility ranges between 15 metres during the heaviest rains and 45 metres in the dry season between January and May. April to June are the best months to visit if divers main goal is to see larger species, during this time there is a much higher chance of seeing Whalesharks, Nurse Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks and Manta Rays.
