Kitutia is a coral reef that surrounds a sandbank located 2.5 hours South of Mafia. This dive is planned as a full-day excursion, combined with a BBQ picnic and, in season, whale watching.

Mange Reef (★4.5)

Mange is a reef located 2 hours South of the dive centre, dived as part of a full day expedition combined with a sandbank picnic and whale watching, in season. The maximum depth is 18 meters, with beautiful shallows perfect for accompanying non-divers.

Tom’s Garden (★4.4)

A must do for macro enthusiasts, this site has a depth of 7 metres but can be extended if one wants to rear off the beaten track into the sand dunes. This dive site was named after one of our Instructor’s who stumbled upon this seahorse heaven by chance.

The Hill (★4.4)

Another Mafia Island Diving discovered site. The hill is a beautiful site characterized by a large hill of porites coral which develops into low laying hills of coral interspersed with seagrass and rubble.

Pyramid (★4.5)

The dive starts around some coral bommies and small rock formations and slowly ascends to a shallow bank reef after passing the distinct formation of a pyramid.

Critters Alley (★4.6)

Critters Alley can be found just off the shore, at the edge of the drop-off at 7 meters deep. A sandy bottom dive, where one explores the patches of weed, small bommies, and pipe which was layed and abandoned.

Nudibranch City (★4.4)

Nudibranch City is named for its inundation of several different types of nudibranchs. The reef is a 300-metre swim off Utende Beach and lies around 9 metres deep. Here there is an abundance of soft corals and fantastic anemones.

Chekechea (★4.5)

Chekechea in Swahili means ’Kindergarten.’ This site is named Chekechea because it acts as a nursery for juvenile species. It is a very shallow dive site that is excellent for nervous beginners, photographers who want strong natural light, and any diver looking for muck diving encounters with rare critters.

Kasa (★4.4)

Kasa is a shallow, extremely colorful and lively reef where one can often see mature green turtle grazing in the seagrass. This site can experience some strong currents.

Msumbiji (★4.5)

Msumbiji in Swahili means Mozambique; why it was named this, nobody can really say. This site consists of several rock formations decorated with corals, algae, sponges, and anemones. The slopes and sheer walls start at around 3 meters and fall to a maximum of 17.

Chole Reef South (★4.5)

The reef starts at around 5 m and descends to 17 m, ending with sand and coral rubble where it is common to see scavenging titan triggerfish. We regularly see giant reef rays just a couple of meters of the reef resting on the rubble.

Chole Reef North (★4.3)

Chole Reef is a reefbank that is found lying northeast and southwest and is around 800 metres long. The reef starts at around 5 metres and descends to 17 m and ends in sand and coral rubble.

Marimbani (★3.8)

Marimbani is a sandbank located in Chole Bay. Off the Northern face of the sandbar, there is a muck diving site featuring some very peculiar creatures. The maximum depth is around 7 meters. This is an excellent dive to combine with a BBQ picnic.

Small Rock (★4.5)

This site has a maximum depth of 16 metres and a minimum of around 3. Small rock is best dived in the early morning, when the dawn light illuminates the sites’s pinnacles and coral structures, giving the whole area a golden glow.

Kinasi Pass (★4.5)

Perhaps the most famous of all the dive sites in Chole Bay is the mighty Kinasi Pass and its ‘chicken’ pinnacle. Well known for its exciting drift through rocky topography, this site houses caverns and impressive rock formations.

Kinasi Wall (★4.5)

This is a sheltered bank reef, moderately deep and steeply sloping but not a sheer wall as its’ name would suggest. This is a relaxing and beautiful dive but can experience a strong current when dived during the spring tide.

Bwejuu Wall (★3.8)

Located off Bwejuu Island, three hours south, is a unique dive site which experiences strong current and is home to large rock formations both above and underwater, riddled with whip corals. The maximum depth can be 18 metres. As you dive on, the site develops into a beautiful shallow coral reef.

Coral Gardens (★4.5)

Coral Gardens is home to coral bommies teeming with life, which act as mini cleaning stations with shrimps, crabs, and cleaner wrasses. The coral bommies develop into beautiful coral gardens filled with healthy hard coral species.

Shoulder (★4.5)

The Shoulder is the name given to Mafia’s ‘adrenaline’ dive. You dive this site with a very strong current which gets everyone’s hearts beating as they glide across the bottom of the ocean. The maximum depth on this site is around 26 meters. This is for experienced divers only!

Milimani South (★4.6)

Milimani means ‘the place of mountains’ in Kiswahili which very aptly describes this dive site with its impressive hard coral formations - towering up from 18 metres to just below the ocean’s surface in some areas.

Coral Islands (★4.5)

The site is comprised of three extensive and spectacular coral patches starting at around 9 meters and leveling out at around 17. These gorgeous coral islands are separated by sand channels that reflect ambient light across the diverse, healthy coral formations.

Corinne’s Reef (★4.6)

Corinne’s Reef is named after the mother of one of the owners of Mafia Island Diving who stumbled upon this site while accompanying on some exploration.
