Finding the Dugong

The dugong has been the symbol of Marsa Alam and the Southern Red Sea for years, Marsa Alam with an estuary marina eco-system that provides large patches of seagrass which is the Dugong's food.We will move from your hotel to Marsa El Nabaa bay, where our speedboat will be ready for you and take us for the dugong search. 

Few marine encounters in the world compare to swimming alongside a dugong in the wild. These gentle, slow-moving giants have been the symbol of Marsa Alam and the Southern Red Sea for generations — and for good reason. The warm, sheltered waters of this region are home to one of the last healthy dugong populations in the world, sustained by the vast seagrass meadows that line the bay and provide these remarkable creatures with their natural feeding grounds.

Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel, before making your way to Marsa El Nabaa Bay, where our speedboat will be waiting. From here, we set out across the crystal-clear waters in search of these magnificent animals in their natural habitat. Our experienced team knows these waters well and will guide you to the areas where dugongs are most frequently spotted, giving you the best possible chance of an encounter you will never forget.

Once in the water, you will snorkel gently alongside the dugong — no chasing, no disturbing, just pure, respectful wildlife interaction at its finest. The surrounding reef and seagrass ecosystem is equally breathtaking, often home to turtles, rays, and a colourful variety of reef fish.
