Explore Albufeira

Albufeira brings underwater art, natural reefs and marine conservation together on the central Algarve coast. Boat diving from its marina opens up a varied Atlantic landscape, with guided first experiences, recreational reef dives and opportunities for underwater photography. The town offers accommodation, beaches and restaurants for a holiday that works for divers and their companions.

Art Reef by Vhils is a defining attraction: 13 sculptures made from former power-station materials form an underwater park at around 12 metres. Nearby, Pedra de Santa Eulália is known to local divers as the Algarve's natural aquarium, with rocky habitats and an appealing variety of marine life. Albufeira also provides access to permitted dive sites in the Pedra do Valado Marine Natural Park, often referred to locally as the Valados reserve. Together with Pedra do Alto, one of Albufeira's most visited dive sites, Pedra das Duas Âncoras, artificial reefs and Pedra dos Balanciais, these sites give the destination its own distinctive diving identity.

The Best Months to Dive in Albufeira

Diving is possible throughout the year, provided the weather permits. Boat access from Albufeira Marina makes it convenient to combine nearby sites across several outings.

Water is usually warmer towards late summer, although Atlantic upwelling can bring colder conditions. Visibility depends on swell, plankton and exposure. Local centres advise on suitable exposure protection and choose sites according to current conditions and diver experience.
