Taganga is a fishing village which lies in the municipality of Santa Maria, on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. In the past few years, the image of the ‘traditional fishing village’ has been slightly altered as it has become one of the most popular destinations for divers to get their diving certifications, due to the high number of dive centres and dive resorts, and the attractive prices. An added bonus is that the waters here do hold a vast amount of marine life to be admired while learning how to dive. The most popular diving destination lies just a few minutes by boat from the shore; Tayrona National Park. Here divers will be able to admire some flourishing corals covering an exciting collection of rock formations, and an abundance of marine life living in and among these corals. This location caters to first time divers as well as more experienced divers with every dive having something exciting to spot in warmer, clear waters.
El Torrin is a captivating dive site located 18 meters underwater, famous for its large collection of Brain Corals. Divers can spot various smaller marine critters that reside among these corals. The adventure level is easy, making it suitable for scuba diving. It's an excellent site for observing diverse underwater life.
This site is ideal for advanced divers due to its deeper location and steep wall adorned with stunning Black Corals. The dive type is primarily scuba. Morrito Largo offers a thrilling experience for those seeking to explore more challenging underwater environments and is a showcase of vibrant coral life.
El Palo features shallow caves at a depth of 20 meters, accessible to slightly more experienced divers. It provides an adventurous overhead environment for scuba diving. The site is perfect for divers interested in exploring underwater formations within a safe depth range.
El Coro is one of the few dive sites that can be entered from shore. It features two large rock formations between 20 and 40 meters, with small caves that host a multitude of species. Suitable for both scuba and freediving, it offers a unique diving experience with diverse marine life.
La Pecera is renowned for frequent sightings of Hawksbill Turtles, making it an ideal spot for turtle enthusiasts. Suitable for scuba diving, this site offers an easy adventure level. Its tranquil waters and abundant wildlife make it a favorite among divers seeking encounters with marine reptiles.
Due to the tropical, warm, air and water temperatures, it is possible to dive in Taganga all year round. The air temperatures range between 25°C and 31°C. Compared to many other diving locations in Colombia, the water temperatures here in Taganga do get slightly colder. The water temperatures here range between 22°C and 28°C, so luckily still not cold.
Overall, the visibility in this area is above average, ranging between 10 metres and 30 metres, depending on the weather and time of year.
