The southern province of Trang located along the Andaman Sea coast boasts warm azure waters with pristine beaches. There are plenty of diving adventures to be had, including reef dives, walls, wrecks, caverns, tunnels and pinnacles, with astounding amounts of marine life is just as diverse as the topography.
Trang’s dive sites display huge numbers of hard and soft coral species, and with depths reaching up to around 30 meters in most places, and moderate currents, it’s a great place for beginners to undertake entry-level dive courses. Sites are accessed by boat, with day trips and liveaboard safaris making their rounds. With abundant dive centers and dive resorts in the province, there’s opportunity around every corner for beginners and experienced divers alike.
There are lots of accessible islands to dive in Trang, including the near and far hotspots, like Koh Mook, Koh Rok National Park, Koh Ngai, Koh Kradan, Koh Vahn, Koh Chuek, Koh Libong and Koh Lanta. The popular Phi Phi Islands are also possible to visit from here.
Diving is possible year-round, though there are two distinguishable seasons. The best season to dive, which is the dry period when seas are calm and the weather is clear, lasts from January to March, and the rainy season runs from April to December. Water temperatures linger around 27°C-30°C, and visibility can reach 20 meters.
Trang’s diving scene offers beautiful Indo-Pacific species, from colorful hard and soft corals, sea fans, and thriving reef fish like batfish, lionfish, anemonefish, butterflyfish, and triggerfish, to silver schools of barracuda and jacks. Reef sharks, turtles, eels, octopus, cuttlefish, scorpionfish, lobster and sea snakes make appearances, and sandy areas host leopard sharks and stingrays. Divers may even spot a manta or whaleshark in certain areas, like at Hin Daeng and Hin Muang.
