The best Months to dive in Weissensee
Weissensee offers unique freshwater diving experiences with varying conditions throughout the year. In winter, the lake is often covered with a thick layer of ice, creating a surreal under-ice diving opportunity. During this time, water temperatures hover around 4°C/39°F, and visibility can be excellent, reaching up to 20 meters/66 feet due to reduced algae growth. However, ice diving requires specialized equipment and training.
Spring and summer usher in warmer temperatures, ranging from 10°C–20°C/50°F–68°F, with visibility slightly reducing as algae blooms increase. These months are ideal for divers seeking more comfortable conditions. Autumn offers clear waters with temperatures between 8°C–16°C/46°F–61°F, maintaining good visibility. The best months for diving are May to October, when water conditions are more favorable for most divers. However, caution is advised during autumn due to potential weather fluctuations.
