In the port city of Port-la-Nouvelle, it's known as the "Japanese". This is the sad story of the Shigizan Maru, which became one of the many wrecks in the Mediterranean, built in the Netherlands and ended its life off the coast of Aude, between La Nouvelle and La Franqui.
4 nautical miles south-east of the Port la Nouvelle lighthouse, in 30m of water, lies the carcass of the 'Shigizan Maru', a postal ship built in Holland in 1892.
