Divers' Supply Indy's 33rd Annual Treasure Hunt

The SSI Assistant Instructor program provides candidates with the knowledge and training needed to perform the duties of an Assistant Instructor. These responsibilities include conducting entry‑level scuba training under the supervision of an Open Water Instructor, as well as independently teaching Scuba Skills Updates, Try Scuba, and Perfect Buoyancy programs.At Divers’ Supply Indy, our Assistant Instructor programs are offered twice a year — once in the spring (mid‑April to early May) and once in the fall (September). Each program runs for six days over two consecutive weekends (Friday–Saturday–Sunday). Classes are held from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day and include a combination of classroom sessions and confined‑water training.

Join the SSI Science of Diving specialty and you will develop a complete understanding of the underwater world and its effects on the human body. This specialty is required training for most SSI Professional programs, as well as some Extended Range programs, and is an essential way to expand your dive knowledge. Available online, you can earn your SSI Science of Diving specialty certification from home and get ready to begin your dive professional career. Upon completion, you will be halfway to earning the coveted SSI Divemaster rating and earn the SSI Science of Diving specialty certification.

Buoyancy is one of the most important skills in scuba diving, and while it takes time to master, the SSI Perfect Buoyancy Specialty helps you get there faster. This course teaches you advanced buoyancy techniques so you can dive with greater control, comfort, and relaxation on every adventure.You’ll also learn skills that protect the environment and improve your diving in any situation. Night diving requires different skills from diving during the day. The SSI Night Diving and Limited Visibility specialty is the best way to learn about night diving and practice the techniques you will need to become a safe and confident night diver. In this program, you will be provided with all the knowledge and skills you need to safely and comfortably dive at night or in limited visibility conditions. With a combination of online learning and open water training dives, you will learn how to enter and exit the water, use specialized equipment, and how to communicate with your buddy easily at night or in limited visibility. Upon completion, you will earn the SSI Night Diving and Limited Visibility specialty certification and be ready to go night diving with confidence.

Sidemount diving is a standard configuration for wreck and cave exploration, and its advantages are now attracting many recreational divers as well. Without a heavy tank on your back, gearing up and entering the water becomes easier and more comfortable. The improved freedom of movement and unique buoyancy feel are major reasons divers enjoy this style.Beyond comfort and exploration, sidemount is also a great option for travel. The equipment is significantly lighter than traditional BCD systems, making it easier to pack and transport.

The SSI Divemaster rating also recognizes candidates who have achieved the competency required to perform the duties of a Certified Assistant. These duties include assisting SSI Instructors with conducting both entry‑level and continuing‑education scuba training programs.Program ScheduleDivers’ Supply Indy offers Divemaster programs twice a year—once in the spring (mid‑March to early April) and once in the fall (August). Candidates are often encouraged to take additional time to practice and refine their skills before progressing to the next step of the program.Travel RequirementsPlease note: The Divemaster course requires travel to an open water site during the second weekend of training. Typical locations include: • Vortex Spring, Florida (spring session) • Gilboa Quarry, Pennyroyal, or Mermet Springs (fall session)All travel expenses are the responsibility of each individual candidate and are not included in the course price.
