The Assistant Instructor rating is the next step after becoming a Divemaster along the scuba instructor pathway. It allows you to collect valuable teaching experience, practice briefings, teach academics, and conduct in-water training. If you want to further your career as a dive professional, you can finish the Instructor Training Course, pass the Instructor Evaluation, and become an Open Water Diving Instructor.

The Divemaster course is the first step on an exciting journey. Earn the respect of your dive buddies and become an ambassador for scuba diving by taking the Divemaster course. All you need to get started are 40 verified/logged dives and certifications in Deep Diving, Navigation, Night Diving, and Limited Visibility—or at least 5 logged/verified dives in each area plus Diver Stress & Rescue. You’ll be certified as a Divemaster/Dive Guide after successfully completing the Divemaster course. If you want to turn your passion into a career—by guiding certified divers, teaching ecology courses, assisting instructors, or becoming an instructor yourself—the next step is the Divemaster Upgrade, which requires a minimum of 60 logged/verified dives. You can earn your Divemaster Upgrade right away or at any time later by studying the Science of Diving materials on your own and passing the Digital Final Exam, which certifies you as an SSI Professional. SSI now offers the highly anticipated Public Safety Diver course to meet the growing demand for highly qualified public safety divers worldwide. SSI’s innovative and comprehensive approach to public safety training will prepare you to join public safety diving teams. This 4-day certification course provides the basic knowledge, skills, and fundamentals necessary to ensure safety and competence, and is a prerequisite for enrolling in SSI’s Rescue Team Diver course.

Diving in a drysuit opens up a world of opportunities, including dives in remote Arctic destinations and the exploration of cold-water dive sites teeming with life. Diving in a dry suit also keeps you warm on days with multiple dives, when you don’t want to spend time getting in and out of a cold wetsuit. The SSI Dry Suit Diving Specialty course is the best way to become a dry suit diver and teaches you all the knowledge and techniques you need to dive safely and comfortably in a dry suit. You’ll learn how to use specialized equipment, such as dry suits and jackets; you’ll understand the benefits of this equipment; and you’ll learn how to handle emergencies specific to this type of diving. Upon completion, you’ll earn the SSI Dry Suit Diving Specialty certification.
