THE PATH TO DEEP WRECKS: Extended Range Foundations
Exploring historic ocean liners and shipwrecks in the North Atlantic is one of the most rewarding experiences in diving. But to reach these depths safely, you need a solid foundation. The winter off-season is the perfect time to build that foundation, as it offers an environment conducive to focus—free from distractions—where you can hone your skills before the summer charter season begins.
Welcome to the “Oceanauts Elite” winter technical course. Your first major step is the “SSI Extended Range Foundations” program: an intensive, structured workshop designed to introduce you to the twin-tank configuration and optimize your skills in the aquatic environment.
Have you never dived with a twin-tank setup before? That’s exactly where you start. No prior experience with twin tanks is required to take this course. This course is the ideal, step-by-step springboard for recreational divers who want to make a smooth transition to technical diving equipment.
Under the personal supervision of an SSI Technical Extended Range Instructor, we will focus entirely on mastering the twin-tank configuration
- Dual Regulator Training: An in-depth overview of how manifolds, isolation valves, and the safety features of a fully redundant breathing system work
- Buoyancy and Precision Trimming: Learn how to adopt a comfortable, effortless horizontal profile and maintain a perfectly stable static position in the water column
- Optimized Propulsion: Mastering advanced techniques such as the frog kick and backward kick for efficient and controlled movement in the water.
- Valve Mechanics: Develop fluid and confident muscle memory for valve handling and gas-sharing protocols while wearing drysuit gloves.
- Team spirit: establish clear communication and a structured, supportive buddy system underwater
THE WINTER PROGRAM:
To ensure personalized, high-quality instruction, this program is strictly limited to a group of no more than 4 participants and takes place over two Saturdays dedicated exclusively to training.
- Saturday, November 7: Fundamentals, Day 1 (Markethill SCUBA Quarry)
- Saturday, November 21: Fundamentals, Day 2 (Markethill SCUBA Quarry)
All in-water sessions take place in a controlled and safe environment, in a protected area, at depths of less than 12 meters. We’re having you do targeted exercises right now so that your open-water dives next summer will go smoothly, in a familiar setting, and be thoroughly enjoyable.
Don’t just look at the technical equipment. Let us teach you how to use it for diving.
