Open Water Diver
Participants enrolling in the SSI Open Water Diver course must meet the following requirements and obligations. The minimum age is 10 years old. No prior diving certification is required; however, participants should be comfortable in the water and able to swim at least 200 meters and float or tread water for 10 minutes without assistance. All students must complete a medical questionnaire prior to the start of the course. If any medical conditions are indicated, a physician’s approval for diving is required before participating in in-water training.
Before beginning the course, participants must complete Chatpers 1-3 of the assigned SSI digital learning materials and quizzes. This ensures adequate theoretical knowledge prior to confined and open water sessions.
Students are required to bring personal items including swimwear, a towel, and any personal dive equipment they wish to use (mask, snorkel, fins, etc.), although all scuba equipment will be provided. It is recommended to bring a reusable water bottle, reef safe sunscreen, and appropriate clothing for sun protection.
Upon completion of all academic and in-water requirements, participants will be certified as SSI Open Water Divers.
