Want to get more out of your diving days on Bonaire? With the SSI Enriched Air Nitrox 40% course, you’ll learn to dive safely with a higher oxygen percentage than regular compressed air. Nitrox can help extend your no-decompression limits (NDL), allowing you to stay within your permitted dive time longer on certain dives.
At Scuba School Bonaire, you’ll take the course in a private setting. You’ll learn exclusively with your own family, friends, or dive buddies. With a maximum of 2 students per instructor, you’ll receive plenty of personal attention and all the space you need to ask questions and cover the theory at your own pace.
How does the course work?
The SSI Nitrox 40% course is taken largely online. You can work through the theory at your own pace, whenever it’s convenient for you.
After completing the online portion, you’ll participate in a one-hour hands-on training session with your instructor at Scuba School Bonaire. During this one-on-one session, you’ll learn step by step how to properly analyze and record Nitrox.
During the practical session, you will learn:
- Calibrating the oxygen sensor
- Analyzing the breathing gas in your scuba tank
- To create a correct cylinder label for the analyzed gas
- Fill out the Nitrox Logbook at the fill station
- Discuss any questions regarding the safe use of Nitrox

The Guided Dive
As part of the course, you will complete one guided Nitrox dive with your instructor. Together, you will plan the dive based on your experience, the chosen dive site, the Nitrox mixture you will be using, and your dive computer settings.
Before entering the water, you’ll put your Nitrox knowledge into practice. You’ll check your gas, discuss the planned maximum depth and dive time, and verify that your dive computer is correctly set for the Nitrox mixture you’ll be using.
During the dive , your instructor will guide you and help you put what you’ve learned into practice. This gives you the opportunity to become familiar with diving with Nitrox, while receiving personalized guidance throughout the entire dive.
The guided dive is included in the course price. Diving equipment rental and the scuba tank are not included and can be booked separately. Of course, you’re also welcome to use your own diving equipment.
