Trip to Revillagigedo. Socorro Island Liveaboard

During this trip, we’ll do three deep dives and two wreck dives to complete the certification for both courses. We’ll use Nitrox for the shallower dives to extend our bottom time and dive more safely.

For more than 10 years, divers from Cancún have been exploring the nearby open-ocean areas in search of encounters with pelagic animals such as sailfish, sharks, and manta rays.Recently, remote sites have been identified where manta rays arrive at a certain time of year; it is not known why they come because they have not been studied, but it is known that the months with the highest probability of seeing them are September and October. One of these places is called Manta Valley, and we will be going to an alternate location.These manta rays aren’t used to interacting with divers because no more than 200 divers have dived at this site, so if your reference for diving with manta rays is Revillagigedo... get ready for a different kind of experience, since this dive is unique—it’s done from a stationary position, waiting for the manta rays to approach you as they swim to their cleaning stations. So here’s an important rule: YOU DO NOT APPROACH THEM—THEY COME TO YOU!Of course, sightings aren’t guaranteed—this is an expedition. We’ll be sailing to a non-commercial site where very few people have ever dived. But one thing’s for sure: if we happen to have a day with plenty of sightings, you’ll become a fan and want to come back every year!The plan is to spend two days looking for them, and the itinerary includes an extra “buffer” day in case of bad weather, etc., to allow for adjustments. If we encounter a large number of manta rays and the entire group is interested, we can increase the number of dives to three on the second day of manta ray diving.

The Revillagigedo Archipelago consists of a group of four volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean, known for their unique ecosystem. The islands are home to many endemic species of plants and animals. Socorro Island is the most diverse in terms of flora, fauna, and topography. The islands are located 250 miles off the southern coast of Baja California. The only way to reach this remote paradise is by boat—a 10-day, 9-night liveaboard trip with 6 days of diving, during which we plan to dive at the islands of San Benedicto, Socorro, and Roca Partida.These islands are a spectacular magnet for the world’s largest pelagic ocean animals. The animals include hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks, very friendly dolphins, silky sharks, Galápagos sharks, schools of horse mackerel and barracuda, tuna, wahoos, whitetip sharks, and, of course, the giant manta rays that have become Revillagigedo’s main attraction!We will travel aboard the M/V Valentina, a boat that offers all the amenities we need for our stay and all the necessary safety equipment.
