Now that we’re settled into our new home, we’re shocked by how many large lionfish are living right in our own backyard! These beautiful—but destructive—invaders don’t belong here, and they’re taking a serious toll on our reefs. Lionfish are an invasive species in South Florida, and each female can release up to 2 million eggs per year. With no natural predators here, they explode in number. They devour our juvenile reef fish—snapper, grouper, parrotfish, and others that keep our reefs balanced and healthy. The more lionfish that take over, the fewer native fish survive. Join us in helping give our reef residents a fighting chance! Every Third Saturday — Lionfish Showdown on Delta’s Splash! Whoever brings back the most lionfish when we return to the dock gets their dive for FREE. Every lionfish removed truly makes a difference. Let’s clean up the reef together!
