Assistant Instructor
Step Up. Lead Forward. Become an Assistant Instructor.
As a qualified Divemaster, you’ve already proven your commitment to diving.
You’ve led dives, managed groups, delivered site briefings, and represented professionalism underwater.
Now it’s time for the next step.
Becoming an Assistant Instructor with Central Coast Divers is not simply the next certification — it’s a transformation. You are about to discover that there is a significant difference between leading certified divers… and teaching new ones.
And that difference matters.
The Industry Needs Leaders Like You
There is a strong and growing demand in the recreational scuba industry for passionate professionals who can share their love of diving safely and effectively.
Open Water Instructors are the backbone of the dive industry. They:
Introduce new divers to the underwater world
Deliver entry-level certifications
Teach continuing education and specialty programs
Inspire lifelong divers
The Assistant Instructor program is your gateway into that world of teaching, mentorship, and leadership.
What This Program Really Does
This is not a casual step forward. It is a professional upgrade.
The program is designed to develop you into a well-prepared, versatile, and marketable dive professional capable of delivering high-quality training to both entry-level and experienced divers.
It will be:
Challenging
Structured
Engaging
Professionally demanding
You will be expected to ask questions, participate actively, and take responsibility for your own development.
Your fundamental dive skills and knowledge will be re-honed, refined, and tested as you transition from dive leader to dive educator.
Your New Role as an Assistant Instructor
Assistant Instructors are authorised to teach selected portions of the Open Water Diver program and certain Specialty courses under the indirect supervision of an SSI Instructor.
But beyond the certification, you will learn how to:
Assist effectively in Open Water training
Conduct Snorkelling programs independently
Deliver Scuba Skills Updates
Run Try Scuba pool experiences professionally
Become a genuine asset to instructional staff
To succeed at this level, you must accept the responsibility of being a dive professional — not just in the water, but in presentation, communication, and leadership.
The SSI Diver Diamond – Our Signature Training Method
All Central Coast Divers professional programs are built upon the SSI Diver Diamond framework:
Proper Knowledge
Knowledge replaces fear with understanding.
You will gain the technical and educational foundation required to confidently answer student questions and address concerns.
Proper Skills
Your dive skills will be elevated.
You must demonstrate control, student management, and instructional clarity.
Proper Equipment
At this level, a Total Diving System means more than personal gear.
You’ll understand merchandising policies, instructor presentation standards, training equipment protocols, and how equipment knowledge supports customer development.
Proper Experience
Real growth comes through teaching and demonstration.
Our program ensures you gain practical experience — not just theory.
Flexible, Professional Structure
All Central Coast Divers Professional programs include structured home study components. Candidates are expected to read, comprehend, and complete all online reviews independently before in-water assessments.
Professionalism begins with preparation.
